Roddick Pulls Out of French Open
19-May-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
The top American hopes to be ready for a Wimbledon tune-up.
After two consecutive first round defeats in the French Open, Andy Roddick has withdrawn from the biggest tournament on his worst surface because of a shoulder injury.
The top-ranked American in the field first pulled out of the Rome Masters on May 10, and then skipped the Hamburg Masters last week, but was expected to play in Duesseldorf at the World Team Cup.
“Andy is pulling out with an upper back shoulder injury, the same thing he had in Rome,” said John Roddick, the U.S. captain at the World Team Cup, and also Andy’s brother. “He’s pulling out of here and he’s also going to miss the French Open too.”
John Roddick went on to say that he hoped his brother’s shoulder was healed in time for the grass-court tournament at Queen’s Club, which serves as a vital warm-up for Wimbledon (where Andy has made two finals, only to lose to Roger Federer in both).
