The Chicago Bulls Win Lottery, Win Top Draft Pick
20-May-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

Chicago defies the odds, earns the top pick.

Just moments ago, the Chicago Bulls literally won the lottery and were granted the top overall pick in June’s NBA Draft.

Chicago’s odds were a miniscule 1.4 percent for the top pick, which seemed insurmountable considering the Miami Heat, who were awarded the second overall pick, had a 25 percent chance at the first pick.

In terms of which player will truly go number one, most think that the decision is between two players—Derrick Rose, of Memphis, and Michael Beasley of Kansas State. Rose, a 6’ 3” point guard, who attended Memphis for one year, is originally from Chicago. But the Bulls have longed for a productive big man, and the 6’11” Beasley figures to give them that, if they so choose.

But June’s draft is an extremely positive conundrum for the Bulls to be faced with, considering the extremely disappointing season the team had last year, when many picked the team to make it at least to the Eastern Conference Finals (which begin Tuesday night).
