Rescue Me Fifth Season Delayed One Year
FX's Rescue Me will air a series of "minisodes" this summer as a bridge to the show's fifth season next summer.
The network will run 10 five-minute shorts in June at 10 p.m. ET. They are expected to be on Tuesdays, with additional distribution coming on the Web, much like the minisodes of The Office two summers ago.
The reason for delay in the fifth season is because of a halt in production, stemming from the writers' strike.
Because of this, the 10 minisodes will be comedic in nature, and will not serve as a link in content between the two seasons. Instead, FX hopes that they serve as a promotional tool that keeps Rescue Me in people's minds until the new episodes air.
The minisodes will be cowritten by Rescue Me series producers Peter Tolan and Denis Leary (who is also the main character in the show). FX also used a similar minisode tactic between seasons two and three, with a 15-minute stand-alone episode dubbed "Rescue Me 2.5."
