Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The newest installment in the "Indiana Jones" series is smart and fun!

It's pretty exciting to live in a time when pop culture history is made. And Indiana Jones is a serious part of pop culture. The latest entry into Steven Spielberg's megahit adventure series is a good movie. Chock full of humor, slam-bang action adventure thrills, and some snappy dialogue, the movie is a pleasant surprise.

For anyone who loved Raiders of the Lost Ark, this movie shouldn't disappoint. Set in the 1950's, Crystal Skull takes us on a quest that involves archeology, history, aliens and even some very human surprises. Though he's older and wiser, "Indiana Jones" is still a cheeky daredevil, always on the quest for the next great adventure. This time around, the adventure involves much more than even he could've expected.

According to entertainment lore, after the resounding success of Raiders and the not as steller showing of Temple of Doom, Spielberg and George Lucas used the Raiders formula once again when making The Last Crusade. And that worked quite well. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull plays similarly to the first and third films, with a healthy dose of the supernatural. Though George Lucas initially decided that every Indiana Jones movie should have a different girl, it was a very smart move to bring back the first and best love interest, Marion Ravenwood, as played by Karen Allen. The chemistry between Harrison Ford and Karen Allen is wonderfully palpable, as both are so similarly stubbornly passionate. Shia LaBeouf has a surprisingly successful turn in the film as well, going from Brando clone to able-bodied young man. However, I'm in no rush to see him take over for Ford, as "Indiana Jones" has obviously still got it. The years have gone by, but "Indiana Jones" is just as entertaining.
