Why was Lindsay Lohan in rehab?
Posing that question to observers of celebrity culture is liable to draw sarcastic responses, as they are apt to delve into her troubled history with the paparazzi.
The Daily Blabber from iVillage is noting that Lindsay’s reasons for visiting a rehabilitation center are different, with her publicist sticking to one set of circumstances and her mother laying claim to another.
When she was photographed last Thursday night at the Century City Hospital with her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, her publicist made it clear that she was just visiting a friend; she also added that, according to People.com, she was “in rehearsal for her film, Labor Pains.”
Her mother Dina, however, had a contrasting account, telling People.com that Lindsay was seeking medical attention for an asthma attack. Dina told People.com, “She was losing oxygen and couldn't breathe.” She continued by noting Lindsay’s fear of going to the hospital should the paparazzi fabricate her intentions for being there.
Dina was unable to stand by Lindsay’s side through her ordeal, but she praised Samantha for doing so, calling her “an angel.”
Ironically, while Lindsay’s mother is concerned about the paparazzi fabricating this account, it is clear here that she did a decent job of it without their help.
