Flip Saunders Has Been Fired

Pistons fire Saunders after losing to Boston Celtics.
Flip Saunders was forced out as head coach of the Detroit Pistons Tuesday after he led the team to three consecutive Eastern Conference Championships, but no Finals appearances, reports the Associated Press.
“Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular seasons,” president of Detroit’s basketball operations Joe Dumars said in a statement Tuesday. “However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change. I thank Flip for his hard work and dedication, but it is time for a new voice to lead the team.”
Saunders was one of the most successful coaches in the league during his three-year run, with a 176-70 record in the regular season and 30-21 in the postseason.
But the change comes after the Pistons made six straight conference finals, only making two Finals with one NBA Championship during that time.
It is unclear whether or not Detroit’s key players – most notably Rasheed Wallace – will stay with the team after a disappointing 2007-08 season.
