Reverend Pfleger Asked to Take a Leave After Mocking Mrs. Clinton

Controversial statements force action from the Catholic Church.

Reverend Michael Pfleger has been asked by Cardinal Francis George to take a temporary leave from his position following his controversial remarks in regards to New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's bid to win the Democratic party's presidential nomination, according to the Associated Press.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama had been a longtime member of the Trinity church where Pfleger performed a guest sermon last week. According to the AP, during the sermon, Pfleger mocked Mrs. Clinton by pretending to be her while complaining that a black man was stealing her show on the road to the Presidential nomination. Trinity is the same church where controversial Reverend Jeremiah Wright was a longtime pastor.

Obama resigned his longtime membership from the Trinity church in response to the controversial remarks from Wright as well as Pfleger's guest sermon.

According to the AP, Cardinal Francis George made a statement in regards to the situation, stating that the Catholic Church would like Pfleger, "to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the church's regulations for all Catholic priests."
