Supporters of Clinton Threatening to Vote Republican in Election
A potential detriment to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is the loyalty of his opponent Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's supporters, according to Benjamin Sarlin of the New York Sun. Various Clinton backers have stated that if Obama does in fact officially win the Democratic nomination, as expected, they will either not vote in the election or cast their vote for Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
Marta Alexander, a volunteer for the Clinton campaign, was quoted in the New York Sun as saying, "I would possibly vote for McCain. Definitely not Obama. We don't drink lattes and we don't drink the Obama Kool-Aid." Other supporters of Clinton, following Obama's clinching of the Democratic nomination, publicly chanted, "No Clinton! No vote!"
Despite the outcries from certain Clinton supporters, statistics from a CNN poll show that the attitude of strong Clinton backers is echoed elsewhere. CNN's statistics indicate that in Kentucky and West Virginia, two strong Clinton states, approximately two-thirds of Clinton voters responded by saying that they would vote for McCain as opposed to Obama.
