Obama Scheduled to Make Appearances in Virginia on Thursday

Democratic candidate immediately attacking pivotal state

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate John McCain stated publicly yesterday that they both intend on campaigning heavily in areas that have often voted for the opposing political party's candidate in recent years.

Obama, who specifically cited Virginia as a pivotal state in the upcoming election, is immediately delivering on his claim by beginning his general election campaign in Virginia, according to CNN Politics.

The state of Virginia has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in over 40 years. The state last voted for a Democrat in 1964 when its electoral votes went to Lyndon B. Johnson. Virginia currently possesses thirteen electoral votes and Obama's campaign has been adamant about how important those votes will be in the upcoming election on numerous occasions.

A rally is slated for this evening in Northern Virginia where Senator Jim Webb is scheduled to make his first appearance with Obama during his campaign. According to CNN, Webb is considered to be a potential running mate for Obama in the upcoming election.
