Democratic Candidate Obama Sets Fundraising Guidelines
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has established new fundraising guidelines for the Democratic National Committee, or D.N.C., according to Jeff Zeleny of the New York Times. Earlier today, the Senator announced that the Democratic National Committee will no longer be accepting contributions from political action committees or federal lobbyists, according to Zeleny.
On Tuesday, the Democratic candidate managed to help raise approximately $2.5 million at a fundraiser held in Manhattan, NY for the Democratic National Committee. Campaign spokeswoman for the Obama campaign, Linda Douglass, made a statement regarding Obama's decision, saying, "We want the Democratic party to conform to his standards of openness to reduce the influence of special interests."
This move by Obama is all a part of a strategy that he intends to implement in the upcoming presidential campaign, according to Zeleny. The Democratic candidate will apparently make the source of fundraising money for each respective campaign in the upcoming election a serious matter. According to Zeleny, no candidate from a major political party has refused to accept public financing in over 30 years.
