Second Bus Bombing in Sri Lanka Kills 2, Injures 20
According to AP News, at least two people have been killed and another 20 people have been injured in a second suspected bomb attack this Friday near the town of Kandy in central Sri Lanka. This explosion came hours after 21 people were killed on a bus outside the capital of Columbo.
According to a statement issued by Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, Sri Lanka's military spokesman, "The LTTE [Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam] carried out the attack exploding a bomb inside a passenger bus."
Nanayakkara told the news organization Al Jazeera that the military has operations focused in the north of the country where the LTTE or the "Tamil Tigers" have bases.
The LTTE have fought the Sri Lankan government for two decades in an attempt to secure a homeland for Tamils, an ethic minority in Sri Lanka, in the north and east of the island.
