Comedian Franken Looks to Show Serious Side in Run for Senate
Al Franken, who is known in the entertainment world as an author, former cast member of Saturday Night Live and liberal radio host, is attempting to show that he is serious about his upcoming run for Senate, according to Reuters.
Despite the fact that Franken reportedly swapped quips with those in support of his Senate run at a gathering of Democratic activists last week, Franken also promised to provide stiff competition to Norm Coleman, the incumbent Minnesota Senator.
Franken has earned more fundraising money than his opponent to date, having raised $9.4 million as opposed to Coleman's $8.7 million, reports Reuters. The former comedian was able to officially land an endorsement from the Democratic Party in his run for Senator last weekend after speaking to delegates that were present at the Party's convention.
Franken displayed his serious side during a speech given recently in which he addressed the incumbent Republican Senator, saying, "Norm Coleman is going to try to run away from his record. I'm not going to let him."
The former comedian is running for Senate in the same state that once elected former professional wrestler Jesse Ventura as its governor.
