Strahan Retires After 15 Seasons
9-Jun-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

Strahan notified FoxSports of the news Monday.

Coming off a Super Bowl that saw the Patriots’ offensive line be dominated by Michael Strahan and the New York Giants’ defensive line, Strahan has decided to retire after 15 seasons.

The 36-year-old Strahan decided to end a Hall-of-Fame career Monday, not by informing his teammates or coaches, but rather by just filing papers with the league.

“I’m just finding out about it; let me get organized,” coach Tom Coughlin said after a team workout.

Strahan’s decision leaves behind a $4 million contract for what will certainly be a job on television. Judging by the news organization that broke the news – FoxSports.com – Strahan figures to join Fox next year.

“It was important that my teammates knew which way I was going before they got on the field to start the work to defend our title,” Strahan told the site. “It’s time. I’m done.”

“I knew it was going to [eventually] happen,” Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning said. “He had a tremendous career. If that is the case, he picked a great season to go out on.”
