Clinton Must Chip Away at Enormous Debt from Campaign

Democratic candidate financially crippled after expensive campaign.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton is estimated to have accumulated the largest presidential campaign debt in the history of the nation, according to Michael Luo of the New York Times.

The former First Lady spent $11.4 million of her own money on her presidential campaign and at the end of April, Clinton owed approximately $9.5 million in unpaid bills to vendors who assisted her throughout her campaign, according to Luo.

Clinton's campaign is currently unsure as to what the overall accumulation of debt will amount to since they are still adding up the figures from last month. Clinton's campaign has a deadline of June 20 by which they must report how much debt has been accumulated.

Clinton campaign spokesman, Mo Elleithee, made a statement about the campaign's debt, which showed optimism that the debt should not rise drastically after the campaign completes its calculations for the month of May. She said, "We don't expect the debt number to look significantly different than it did on our last report."
