Lieberman May Receive Second Chance at Vice President as Republican
Senator Joseph Lieberman, Al Gore's running mate in the 2000 general election, appears to be a potential candidate for the Vice President position once again in 2008. This time around, if he is to be nominated as a running mate, it appears that it will be with the Republican presidential candidate.
According to Bloomberg.com, Lieberman left the Democratic Party in 2006 after his loss in the Senatorial primary in Connecticut. McCain and Lieberman have since become good friends, largely in part due to their complete agreement in terms of foreign policy, specifically the war in Iraq.
If Lieberman is chosen to be the Republican candidate's running mate in the upcoming election, it is expected that it will potentially attract a large number of independent voters to vote for McCain. However, a potential selection of Lieberman by the McCain campaign would be an enormous risk, as Bloomberg.com is citing that it may turn certain predominantly Republican voters away.
