McCain Mentions Potential "Gas Tax Holiday" for Americans
Gas prices and the overall state of the economy have forced the issue of foreign policy and the war in Iraq to take a backseat in the discussion over the upcoming presidential election, according to WBIR News.
Republican presidential nominee John McCain proposed what he referred to as a gas tax holiday for Americans in an attempt to ease the pain for those who are struggling to pay current outrageous gas prices.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama harshly criticized McCain's idea, stating that he is not creating a long-term solution for a current severe issue that is in need of more than a temporary fix.
Obama said in a speech given recently, "My tax plan will cut taxes for 95 percent of workers, because we need to put money back into the pockets of struggling middle class families."
The Democratic nominee has often linked the Republican nominee with current President George W. Bush in an attempt to sway voters away from voting Republican in the upcoming election.
On the other hand, McCain is now comparing Obama to former Democratic President Jimmy Carter due to his policies on the economy and gas prices. According to WBIR News, he has publicly stated that the Democrat's ideas will result in an economic crisis similar to the problems the nation faced in the 1970s.
