Republicans Beginning to Compare Obama to Former President Carter

Apparent counter to Obama's comparisons of McCain to Bush.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has compared Republican presidential hopeful John McCain to current Republican President George W. Bush constantly in recent months. The criticism has partially resulted in McCain's campaign attempting to separate the candidate from the President in the nation's eyes by preventing public appearances with the two from occurring and McCain himself explaining during campaign speeches how his policies differ from those of the unpopular Bush.

Mitt Romney, a former presidential candidate for the Republican Party, spoke Wednesday about the Democratic nominee and how a comparison with former Democratic President Jimmy Carter carries validity, according to CNN. Romney said, "Frankly, as I look at Barack Obama, what he is proposing is very much like what Jimmy Carter proposed. And that of course led to a disastrous economy."

McCain has been comparing Obama's economic policies to former President Carter's for months, specifically explaining to potential voters that the nation's economy will return to the anemic state that it was in throughout the 1970s.
