Stone Temple Pilots Surprised by Lawsuit
The Stone Temple Pilots are surprised by a lawsuit that was filed by their record label this week; they hope to go back to the studio soon to record a new album, reported Reuters.
Warner Music Group Corp.'s Atlantic Records label sued singer Scott Weiland and drummer Eric Kretz for trying to end their recording contract early, reported Reuters. "Stone Temple Pilots were deeply disappointed to see that Atlantic filed a surprise lawsuit against two members of the (group) when they were in the middle of what were believed to be cordial and positive discussion about (Stone Temple Pilots) returning to the studio to make a new album after 5 years," the group told Reuters in an e-mailed statement Thursday night.
STP rose to fame in the 1990s and they reunited last month for their first national tour in eight years. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, the label is expecting a seventh album as well as up to two more. Apparently Weiland and Kretz threatened to stop performing under the current contract and want to end the agreement unless the label can make changes.
The statement also said, "Should everyone operate in good faith, Stone Temple Pilots are certain that a new album from the band will be available soon." The band fell apart after their 2002 tour and the other two members were released from their contract from 2003, excluding them from the lawsuit, reported Reuters.
