Famous Swedish Musician Killed
15-Jun-2008
Written by: C.J. Trent
Esbjorn Svensson, 44, died Saturday during a scuba diving accident.
The well-known jazz pianist and composer was killed in Sweden’s Stockholm archipelago, according to Reuters.
A member of the famous jazz group, e. s. t., Svensson, along with Dan Berglund and Magnus Ostrum, was internationally recognized for his and his group members’ impressive musical talents. E. s. t. broke the jazz mold by attracting young listeners to a genre that has been, for most of its legacy, relegated to older crowds. With popular albums like 2005’s Viaticum and 2006’s Tuesday Wonderland, e. s. t. has become one of the most popular jazz groups, winning numerous awards and landing the cover of Down Beat magazine in 2006. The group just completed their eleventh album, Lencocyte, which is to be released in September, according to Reuters.
Svensson is survived by his wife and two children, as per Reuters.
