Former Democratic Nominee to Endorse Obama Tonight in Detroit
According to the New York Times, former Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore will be making his debut appearance with current Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama tonight in Detroit. This evening, Obama is scheduled to make a speech and Gore is expected to endorse him as well as attempt to influence all Democrats to rally behind their Party's presidential nominee.
The Democratic nominee in 2000 sent an e-mail to supporters of Obama on Monday that stated, "A few hours from now I will step on stage in Detroit, Michigan to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama. From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States."
Gore stated in the e-mail how he had not publicly endorsed a political campaign until Obama's, due to its importance. The New York Times is reporting that Gore's decision to endorse Obama tonight in Detroit is strategic, due to how important the Democratic Party believes the state of Michigan will be in the upcoming general election.
