Illinois and Missouri in Danger of Succumbing to Swollen River

Floodwaters from Midwest now put them in danger
Illinois and Missouri are hoping that 27 levees currently in the path of the rising Mississippi River will hold up in the coming days in order to prevent serious destruction from the flooding that has already torn through Iowa and parts of Illinois over the past week, according to ABC News.
Riverfront towns downstream in Illinois and Missouri are concerned that the levees may break, which would result in catastrophic damages in both states.
The Associated Press is reporting that Julie Shepard, the spokeswoman for the Adams County Emergency Management Agency, has said that in Illinois, the flooding has the potential to wipe out approximately 47 miles of farmland.
CNN is reporting that one levee has already been spilled over by the swollen Mississippi River early this morning into Adams and Hancock counties.
Luckily, all residents in Adams and Hancock counties have already been evacuated prior to the levee’s breaching. Flooding in Iowa has obliterated the area, causing approximately $1.5 billion in damages, according to ABC News.
