Son of "The Godfather" Wants His Cut

Anthony Puzo sued Paramount Pictures for failing to distribute due revenue from "Godfather" video game

Claiming to have received no revenue from the video game based on The Godfather book and movie, the son of author Mario Puzo, creator of The Godfather, sued Paramount Pictures on Wednesday, reported Reuters.

Anthony Puzo filed documents in the L.A. Superior Court Wednesday stating he was claiming at least $1 million in damages for breach of contract.

In 2006 Paramount Pictures licensed Electronic Arts, a video game publisher to make and distribute a game based on the characters of the Mafia film.

Also in the court documents Puzo claimed that his father made an agreement with Paramount in 1992 which ensured him a hefty share of the revenue of any audio-visual products sold or rented related to Godfather movies.

After his death in 1999, Puzo left his estate primarily to his children.

The suit claimed that this agreement was made because Puzo was paid "an extremely low price" by Paramount for the film rights to his book as he was a "young, relatively unknown author, struggling to support his family" at the time.

Puzo's book was turned into an Academy Award-winning film with star studded cast including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, James Caan, and Robert Duvall.
