Clinton Supporters in the General Election Spotlight

Whether or not majority will side with Obama or McCain may ultimately determine winner.

Ever since Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton conceded from the Democratic Party's race for presidential nomination, supporters of the former first lady have been in the public spotlight over which candidate they will side with in the upcoming general election.

According to Reuters, speculation has been rampant as to whether or not a majority of Clinton's female supporters will ultimately side with her former opponent, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama, or choose to support Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

According to Reuters, highly regarded women's rights and feminist organizations Emily's List and Planned Parenthood have decided to show their support for Obama as opposed to McCain, largely due to McCain's track record on issues such as abortion.

Overall, statistics appear to show that a majority of American women favor Obama as opposed to McCain in the upcoming election. A poll conducted by NBC and the Wall Street Journal shows that 52 percent of American women support Obama, while only 33 percent favor McCain.
