Rosters for U.S.’s Olympic Basketball Team Announced
23-Jun-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

Both Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups withdrew from consideration last week.

The United States’ basketball team was announced Monday, and there weren’t many surprises.

Headlining the team is MVP Kobe Bryant (appearing in his first Olympics), LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. The trio will attempt to win the gold four years after disappointing the country by only coming in third.

Aiding Bryant, James and Wade will be the following players: Carmelo Anthony, Jason Kidd, Tayshaun Prince, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Michael Redd and Deron Williams.

Out of all of the players chosen for the team, none were a part of the NBA Finals-winning Boston Celtics, and only two players are over 30 years old (Kidd and Bryant).

The team will have a minicamp this weekend in Las Vegas and join back up in the same location on July 20-25 to play an exhibition against Canada before heading to China for the true Olympic preparation. The Americans begin Olympic play against China (who will have Yao Ming, back from his broken foot) on Aug. 10.
