Bryant and Paul Headline Selections for U.S. Olympic Team
23-Jun-2008
Written by: Steve Ruback

United States Olympic basketball team officially announced Monday.

The official roster for the 2008 United States Olympic basketball team was officially announced earlier today, according to Fox Sports. Coming off a disappointing showing in the NBA Finals, Los Angeles Lakers guard and NBA MVP Kobe Bryant has accepted the invite and will be making his first appearance in the Olympic Games.

Another major headliner joining Bryant on the Olympic team is New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul, who is coming off a sensational season having led a franchise that has struggled for many years to a top three seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

According to Fox Sports, there is expected to be a tremendous amount of pressure on this year’s squad to come away with the gold medal after the U.S. basketball team left Athens with a bronze medal four years ago.

Other prominent stars that will join Bryant and Paul on the Olympic roster include Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd and Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh.
