Mandela Celebrating in London for His 90th Birthday
One of the most recognizable historical figures of freedom and equality, former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela will turn 90 on July 18 and he plans to celebrate his birthday in London this week, according to EFlux Media.
A concert is scheduled to be held this Friday, featuring such prominent artists as Leona Lewis, Queen and Annie Lennox. The name of the concert is "The Nelson Mandela 46664 Concert," a tribute to the former South African President's sacrifice of remaining incarcerated for 27 years due to his role as an anti-apartheid leader.
According to EFlux Media, the number 46664 is included in the concert title due to its significance as the same number that Mandela once wore while he was incarcerated.
Mandela is slated to meet with former United States President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, American television icon Oprah Winfrey, as well as many other prominent celebrities and supporters.
