McCain Advisor Stirs Up Controversy with Tasteless Remark, Apologizes

Republican nominee immediately shows displeasure over comment.

Charlie Black, a political advisor for Republican presidential nominee John McCain, apologized publicly earlier today after making a tasteless remark about the upcoming election, according to Reuters.

Black said that he believed if another September 11 type of attack were to occur before the upcoming general election in November, that it would benefit Senator McCain.

Black made the statement in an interview with Fortune magazine when he was asked about the Republican nominee's policies regarding foreign policy and national security.

Despite the fact that McCain has come out and said that he strenuously disagreed with McCain's advisor's remark, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama immediately responded to Black's statement, referring to it as a complete disgrace, according to Reuters.

Bill Burton, a spokesman for Obama's campaign, said in response to Black's remark, "The fact that John McCain's top adviser says that a terrorist attack on American soil would be a 'big advantage' for their political campaign is a complete disgrace, and is exactly the kind of politics that needs to change."
