Will Smith Plans to Campaign for Barack Obama in Coming Months
It was reported yesterday that numerous celebrities, including Smith, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and Oprah Winfrey have all provided fundraising money to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. In an interview with the Today show's Matt Lauer, Smith informed the media that his support of the candidate will venture beyond merely financial contributions.
The actor told Lauer that he intends to campaign for the Democratic hopeful in the coming months leading up to the general election in November.
Smith, who is making frequent public appearances to promote his upcoming film, Hancock, discussed with Lauer on the morning program the topic of whether or not our country could rally around Republican presidential hopeful John McCain if he were to be elected.
Smith said, "There's certain ideas I believe Obama stands for that are fundamental, that the forefathers of this country wrote down on paper that we're all supposed to pay attention to, and we're not supposed to ignore it, and do what we want to do because we have different ideas."
