Disney Gives Go-Ahead on Jonas Bros.’ “Camp Rock” Sequel
24-Jun-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

The Jonas brothers’ tele-film was a huge success over the weekend.

After the Jonas brothers' new film, Camp Rock, pulled in 8.9 million viewers in its premiere, the Disney Channel announced that it plans to film a sequel to the movie as soon as possible.

The network hopes to begin production on the film in the late spring or summer of 2009, with the preliminary dates being somewhat flexible, given that the script is unwritten and the schedules of the stars of the film are still up in the air.

The main characters of the film – Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas and Demi Lovato – will be in the sequel. The Jonases and Lovato, who are touring together this summer, star in their respective Disney Channel series, J.O.N.A.S. and Welcome to Mollywood.

The ratings for Camp Rock are somewhat misleading, because Nielsen does not factor in the strong ratings for its re-airings. On ABC Saturday night, the film attracted 3.6 million viewers, while a third airing on ABC Family Sunday night brought in 3.7 million viewers.

And in Canada, Camp Rock became the second highest viewed television movie ever (with 848,000 viewers), next to only High School Musical 2.
