Ernestine Anderson Faces Foreclosure of Seattle Home
Even with 30 albums and four Grammy nominations under her belt, jazz vocalist Ernestine Anderson is still in danger of facing the foreclosure of her Seattle home.
According to public records cited by the Associated Press, Anderson owes more than $30,000 in unpaid debts in mortgage loan payments and penalties. In tireless efforts, family members and friends of the 79-year-old singer hope to raise $45,000 in less than a week to cover the back payments and taxes.
With a monthly income of only $1,000 in Social Security checks and monthly loan payments of $5,000, Anderson does not have much of a financial safety net to fall back on.
Carmen Gayton, a friend of the Anderson family stated, "She never should have gotten that loan. It's a difficult issue for her. The house is her mom's and father's home since 1946."
Anderson's home is not the only one in danger of foreclosure in her neighborhood. According to Realty Trac, a Web site that tracks foreclosures, more than 200 homes face foreclosure in Anderson's zip code.
Anderson's home is scheduled for public auction July 11.
