A Test Run in Parenting?
25-Jun-2008
Written by: Francesca Antonacci
“The Baby Borrowers” puts five teen couples to the test when they are asked to become instant parents.
NBC’s newest reality show, The Baby Borrowers, follows the same format as its other reality partners, says the Washington Post: exploitation of human behavior for entertainment.
The show is centered around five teenage couples who will test their parenting skills through all stages of childhood. They will spend the duration of the show caring for a baby, then a toddler, a preteen, a teenager and finally, the elderly.
Each couple lives in a model home wired so that producers and the parents of these children can watch their every move. Meanwhile, the couples get insight into the world of parenting and determine whether their relationship is strong enough to withstand it.
The parents of the children often intervene, either to scold their parental fill-ins or simply give them tips on how they should handle the situation that they are in. As all other reality shows, The Baby Borrowers lives up to the rules of drama, drama and more drama.
At least one couple will split by the end of the season, reports the Washington Post. While some contestants seem to have a knack for parenting, others clearly do not. However, the obnoxious behavior of some may be due to simple editing to make the series more interesting.
The Baby Borrowers premieres tonight at 8 p.m.
