25-Jun-2008

Donation to help children both in Iraq and the United States.

Hollywood power-couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated $1 million for educational aid for children impacted by the Iraq war, Reuters reports.

The money, which will help children both in Iraq and the United States, will help pay for basic school necessities, including books and supplies. Some money will also help refugee children and school rehabilitation programs. The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, for which Jolie co-chairs, said that it will help more than 5,700 children.

Of the $1 million, $500,000 has been allocated to three groups in Iraq, while another $500,000 has been earmarked for children in the United States who had a military parent die in Iraq, or are separated from a military parent stationed there.

The couple has donated millions of dollars to various charities over the years. They have four children of their own, and are expecting twins.
