Carell Signs On for Three More Seasons of “The Office”
26-Jun-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

The news came from the actor who played the role Carell’s character is based upon.

Steve Carell will stick around The Office and play Michael Scott for at least three more years, according to series cocreator, executive producer and star of the original version of The Office, Ricky Gervais.

The British comic said on his Web site that Carell has renewed his contract for the popular NBC comedy.

“Had some great news today about the American version of The Office,” the British comedian wrote. “Steve Carell (now one of the most bankable film stars in the world) has just signed up for another three years with us.

“He is the hardest working man in Hollywood and the harder he works the better it is for me. I mean . . . well done Steve you are wonderful. . . . He is a very nice man and deserves all his success. I am just as dedicated to my art without compromise but only between the hours of 9 and 3 p.m.”

With the renewal of Carell’s contract, The Office figures to stick around, and if you can’t get enough of the show, rumor has it that Rashida Jones (who played Karen) will be heading the show’s spin-off.

“We are also working on a spin-off series of the American Office,” Gervais wrote, “but I can’t tell you anything about that yet.”
