Will Harry Potter survive his own series?

J.K. Rowling teases fans with small hints at book festival.

At the Edinburgh International Book Festival, J.K. Rowling told fans that Harry Potter would live to see the seventh book in the series, but whether or not he will survive that one is still Rowling's little secret.

"[Harry Potter] will survive to book seven, mainly because I don't want to be strangled by you lot, but I don't want to say whether he grows any older than that," Rowling told the crowd of 500 people who came to hear her read from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

For fans too anxious to wait, Rowling suggests piecing together clues from the first five books in order to figure out what will happen in the last two. She especially emphasized that readers should question why Harry's archenemy, the evil sorcerer Voldemort, didn't die when he tried to kill the baby Harry and failed.

Rowling is currently writing book six in the series, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but she says she has already completed what will be the final chapter of the final book.
