NYC Waterfalls Erected to Mid-October
26-Jun-2008
Written by: Marie J. Pellegrino
Danish artist brought his vision to reality with 4 waterfalls in NYC.
After months of anticipation and hard work, four waterfalls will run from now until mid-October of this year. The waterfalls are the creation of Olafur Eliasson, a Danish artist. He saw the East River as a place for beauty. The man-made waterfalls are placed at the anchorage of Brooklyn Bridge, under the Brooklyn Promenade, Pier 35 in Manhattan, and Governor’s Island.
These creations are not just for aesthetic beauty; they are reported to earn the city $55 million from tourism and will hopefully make people more aware of the need to create a healthy environment. Each of the waterfalls had been designed with the intention of protecting aquatic life and use green power from renewable resources for electricity, according to amny.com.
Many are already excited about Eliasson’s work: Michael Laufer flew all the way from Germany.
