Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made a donation of $1 million to help affected children of the conflict in Iraq.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $1 million to help children affected by the tragic war in Iraq, according to Reuters. The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict is to distribute the donation made through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

Four organizations are to receive the money who are working for the children for both Iraq and the U.S., for children who have lost parents from the conflict, reported Reuters. Pitt told Reuters, “We hope to encourage others to give to these great organizations.”

Half of the money is to go to basic necessities such as books and supplies to get the Iraqi children to school. Aid is also to find its way to refugee children and to school rehab projects, according to Reuters. The rest of the money is to go to children in the U.S. who have lost a parent from the fighting in Iraq or who have been separated from their parent stationed in the war torn country, reported Reuters.

Over the years, the couple has donated millions to charity. Jolie, has been an advocate for the United Nations to the country as a goodwill ambassador. She also co-chairs the Education Partnership for Children of the Conflict and told Reuters, “These educational support programs for children of the conflict are the best way to help them heal.”
