President Bush Signs $162 Billion War Bill to Keep Troops in Iraq
According to the Associated Press, President George W. Bush signed a war bill earlier today that will keep U.S. soldiers in Iraq through the conclusion of his term. The President signed the bill that states $162 billion will be spent to sustain the current war in Iraq.
One of the war bill's greatest benefits is the clause that veterans have the option of transferring benefits given to them, that are unused, to their children and spouses. The bill will also assist young war veterans due to its inclusion of a $62 billion education benefit.
President Bush gave a statement that exemplified his exuberance over the expansion of the G.I. Bill, stating, "We owe a debt of gratitude to our nation's military families. They endure sleepless nights, and the daily struggle of caring for children while a loved one is serving far from home.
"This legislation will make it easier for our troops to transfer unused education benefits to their spouses and children."
