West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin Believes Obama Can Win State
According to the Charleston Gazette, West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin believes that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama can win the state of West Virginia in the upcoming general election.
Manchin is stating his belief publicly that Obama can win the state after meeting with prominent leaders of the Democratic Party in Chicago over the past two days.
Demographic statistics in the state as well as the overwhelming trouncing in West Virginia Obama received during the Democratic primaries from Hillary Clinton are not promising indications of a potential victory in the upcoming general election, according to the Charleston Gazette.
West Virginia is the state with the lowest percentage of residents who have received a college education and is an area full of working class whites, a demographic that Obama has struggled mightily with in terms of receiving support.
Obama does not have the luxury of appealing to a mass number of minorities in West Virginia as the state has an extremely low minority population. However, Manchin believes that Obama can appeal to state voters by campaigning throughout West Virginia in the months leading up to the general election.
