Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell to Play Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson

Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell will star in a comedy based on the tales of Sherlock Holmes, Variety reports.

Cohen, best known for playing characters Ali G and Borat, will reportedly play Holmes in the currently untitled film.

The role of Dr. Watson will be filled by Ferrell.

Matt Tolmach, co-president of Columbia Pictures said, "Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh."

He added, "They are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious."

Producers Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller, who worked with Cohen and Ferrell in the 2006 film, Talladega Nights, will produce the film.

Comedy writer Etan Cohen, who worked on the forthcoming movie, Tropic Thunder, is writing the script.

Sherlock Holmes was created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
