Gallup Poll Shows Hispanics Strongly Support Obama over McCain

Democratic candidate holds 30 percent lead in support.

It was no secret that Senator Hillary Clinton received more support from Hispanic-American voters throughout the Democratic primaries than her opponent and eventual winner of the party's nomination, Senator Barack Obama.

However, contrary to what various political experts once believed, it appears that Obama's struggle to receive Hispanic-American support has not carried over to the presidential race in the upcoming general election.

Obama currently holds an impressive 30 percent lead in support over Republican presidential candidate John McCain, according to the latest poll conducted by Gallup.

A trend that was evident from the survey was that young Hispanic-American voters showed a strong tendency to support the Democratic nominee, while older Hispanic-American voters tended to lean more towards his Republican counterpart.

Spokesman for Gallup, Jeffrey M. Jones, gave his analysis about the latest poll results. He said, "Some political experts assumed Obama's struggle to attract widespread Hispanic support in the primaries would carry over into the general-election campaign against the Republican candidate."
