The Goon Jumps to the Big Screen
3-Jul-2008
Written by: Justin Zaremba
Dark Horse comic book, The Goon, will become a film produced by David Fincher and animated by Blur Studios.
As comic book properties continue to become films, Dark Horse Entertainment is working with David Fincher and the animation house, Blur Studios, to bring the cult comic, The Goon, to theaters as an animated flick, the Hollywood Reporter states.
The Goon was created by Eric Powell in 1999 and follows the supernatural and comedic adventures of an enforcer for a feared mobster.
In 2003, Dark Horse picked up the indie comic and began publishing it.
This is the first feature for Blur Studios, primarily known for their short films, namely the Academy Award-nominated “Gopher Broke.”
In addition to their films, Blur Studios creates commercials and vfx as well.
Fincher will produce the film, while Powell will write the screenplay.
Currently, no studio is attached for distribution. However, Dark Horse has a first-look deal with Universal but will develop the project internally before setting it up.
