Spike Lee to Film Musical
According to Entertainment Weekly, Spike Lee will film three performances of the new Broadway musical, Passing Strange.
The two-time Academy Award nominee will film the Tony Award-winning musical at the Belasco Theatre later this month. The final version, as if taking a queue from MTV's venture with Legally Blonde, may air on cable television.
There has been no official announcement, but EW is reporting that the producers of the new musical will finance the film.
Passing Strange has won over critics and fans alike since opening on Broadway, Feb. 28. The show features a Tony Award-winning book and lyrics by Stew, a bohemian rock score, and the original Public cast, including Stew, de'Adre Aziza, Daniel Breaker, Eisa Davis, Colman Domingo, Chad Goodridge and Rebecca Naomi Jones.
