DVD Dribble
7-Jul-2008
Written by: Steve Ruback

This edition of DVD Dribble previews a few films that have been released on DVD in the past couple of weeks as well as a few others that are set to be released tomorrow.

The Tracey Fragments

Tracey Berkowitz, a 15-year-old girl played by Oscar nominated Ellen Page, is a tormented teenager in search of her lost little brother. Throughout her journey, it becomes evident just how difficult her existence is to endure when taking into account the brutal nature of her high school and the emotional whirlwind she is trapped in at home. The Tracey Fragments is a dramatic, complex creation that forces the viewer to sympathize with Berkowitz over the predicament she is faced with each day as well as the loss of her innocence. This production is rated R and is scheduled for DVD release tomorrow, July 8.

Chaos Theory

Ryan Reynolds plays Frank Allen, an efficiency expert who is accustomed to living his life based on strict organization and punctual timing. His equilibrium is drastically altered one day when he arrives late to a seminar and his entire life begins to spin out of control. His marriage becomes jeopardized by Paula Crowe, a seducer of married men played by Scrubs star Sarah Chalke. Suddenly, Allen changes from a man who planned every step of his life to one of spontaneity. This Warner Bros. release is rated PG-13 and is currently available in stores across the country.

Stop-Loss

The term, stop-loss, is a provision that is contained in every military service contract. It states that any service man or woman can have their term of duty involuntarily extended beyond their expected discharge date. Ryan Phillippe, who plays Sergeant Brandon King, tragically falls victim to this contractual clause after returning home from Iraq. As a result, the war veteran’s outlook on life, love, family and honor are drastically affected in a negative capacity. Stop-Loss, a Paramount Pictures/MTV release, is rated R and is scheduled to be released on DVD Tuesday, July 8.

Drillbit Taylor

Drillbit Taylor is a homeless ex-soldier desperate to earn enough money to migrate to Canada and is willing to obtain the needed income by any means necessary. When three high school students inquire about the usage of his services in order to protect them from a couple of relentless bullies, Taylor, played by Owen Wilson, realizes his golden opportunity to use the teenagers for their money so that he can realize his dream. However, he quickly becomes attached to the kids during his attempts to show them how to defend themselves and counter-attack the actions of the bullies. This deceptively hilarious film culminates in a can’t-miss final showdown between the two bullies and the three high school kids they tormented throughout the year. This Paramount Pictures release is rated PG-13 and is currently available wherever popular DVDs are sold.

Definitely, Maybe

A film that details the relationship between a single father and his daughter, Definitely, Maybe illustrates a father’s struggles in coping with regret over poor decisions from his past in correlation with his daughter’s endless curiosity and unrelenting hope of seeing him achieve happiness. The star-studded cast, which features Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Kevin Kline and Academy Award winning actress Rachel Weisz, is reason enough to watch this film. Specifically, the critically acclaimed Breslin drew a massive amount of praise for her work as she continues to bolster her already outstanding Hollywood resume. Definitely, Maybe, a Universal Studios release, is rated PG-13 and is available everywhere that DVDs are sold.
