McCain Leads Obama in Poll Conducted Targeting Pet Owners
8-Jul-2008
Written by: Steve Ruback

Republican nominee leading jointly-conducted Associated Press/Yahoo poll.

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain currently leads Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in terms of support from pet owners who are also registered voters, according to poll results that were released earlier today.

The poll was jointly conducted by Yahoo and the Associated Press and the results indicated that the Republican holds a 5 percentage point lead, 42 percent to 37 percent, over Obama in the eyes of pet owners.

According to the Associated Press, the apparent underlying factor in the poll results is the fact that McCain has approximately a dozen house pets while his opponent in the upcoming general-election does not own any at the moment.

Lisa Peterson, a spokeswoman for the American Kennel Club, gave her analysis in response to the recently released poll results. She told the media, “From an image standpoint, nothing humanizes a candidate more than seeing him lovingly dote on his pet or toss a ball around on the White House lawn.”

Senator Obama has already promised to his daughters that he will get the family a dog at the conclusion of the general-election process whether he is victorious or not, according to the Associated Press.
