Sacha Baron Cohen Causes Israeli-Palestinian Controversy
8-Jul-2008

Comedian makes offensive references between celebrities and Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Jewish Daily Forward is reporting that comedian Sacha Baron Cohen has conducted an interview with an Israeli and a Palestinian in an attempt to create a comedic sketch. However, the interview resulted in the two individuals becoming extremely offended by Cohen’s cynical interviewing style.

Both men reportedly were treated very professionally by Cohen’s production crew and they believed they would be taking part in an interview that would address the basic circumstances surrounding the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the youth of the world, according to the Jewish Daily Forward.

However, Cohen showed up to the interview approximately an hour late, which deeply aggravated the two individuals who were on a tight schedule, and was dressed as a German rock star. At one point during the interview, the two individuals were baffled by the fact that Cohen confused the terms Hamas and hummus.

Eventually, the Israeli and the Palestinian caught on to the fact that Cohen was attempting to exploit them in order to create a comedic sketch. One comment in particular that raised the eyebrows of the two men was Cohen’s statement of, “Your conflict is not so bad, Jennifer-Angelina is worse,” in regards to Brad Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, and his current wife, Angelina Jolie.

Cohen continued to put the two individuals in uncomfortable situations throughout the interview, resorting to grabbing their hands and holding them together while he sang a bizarre song about the ongoing conflict.
