Simon Brand to bring a story about Ingrid Betancourt to the big screen.
Simon Brand plans to bring the story of the rescue of Ingrid Betancourt and 14 other hostages in Colombia to the big screen in Hollywood. Brand is known for the thriller, Unknown, and the romantic comedy, Paradise Travel, reported Reuters.
He is to work with Vertigo Entertainment, who helped make The Departed and The Grudge, as well as Colombian TV network and production outfit RCN, who is giving the project the inside track on securing rights, according to Reuters.
He plans to develop and direct the hostage rescue project, though no other writers have come on board yet, but the producers plan to look to meet with studios and financiers in the coming month or so.
The former presidential candidate of Colombian and French descent was held captive with three Americans and a group of Colombian police officers. Some of the captives had been held since 2002 by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a rebel faction. Military forces of Colombia planted themselves among the rebels before a final mission that had the rebels under the impression that the captives were being transferred into another camp.
The movie is to tell the story from the point of view of the American, the French and the Colombian as they recreate the rescue. It’s also to be held in France and this will bring a French production partner to be on board to produce the film.
