Nickelback signed with Live Nation and will rake in a hefty sum with the deal, after their contract with Road Runner is done.
Nickelback has just signed a global recording and merchandising deal with Live Nation. They signed a three album, three tour deal which is said to be worth between $50 and $70 million, according to the BBC.
Madonna, Jay-Z, U2 and Shakira are some of the acts that have already signed up with the company in recent months. The band’s hit singles include “Rock Star” and “Photograph,” which have sold more than 26 million albums to date. The band, fronted by Chad Kroeger, have two albums left to release through their current label, Road Runner Records, before they will be able to record any albums with Live Nation.
The promoter reported that Nickelback’s last tour through North America and Australia in 2006 and 2007 made more than $67 million. Part of the deal includes Live Nation handling all of its merchandising, licensing, sponsorship, and secondary ticketing endorsement, according to the BBC.
Live Nation is also to handle DVD and broadcasting rights, their fan club, Web site, and literary rights. The company has led the way in “360-degree” deals that bring in the top artist’s activities under one roof, reported BBC. Michael Cohl, their last chairman, stepped down last week because of internal disagreements over the strategy the company was to take.
