Binoche in a New Production
8-Jul-2008

Juliette Binoche is in a new production that isn’t music, art, or theater.
Juliette Binoche, the 44-year-old star of The English Patient and Chocolat, is coming up to talk of her latest endeavor, learning to dance. Binoche is to star in the National Theatre in In-I, a collaboration with Akram Khan, critically-acclaimed British choreographer, and Anish Kapoor, Turner Prize-winning artist, reported the BBC.
She admits this role is a challenge, but her lack of experience is not a barrier. She told BBC, “I am learning,” after training for two years with Khan. She added, “Conciousness of the body I do have. The body is where it starts. If you have a body you can be spiritual.”
The three seem unsure of where it’s going to end up. It’s not a piece of dance, or a piece of theatre, or music, they told the BBC. Binoche said she was fearful, but inspired about working with the choreographer. She adds that she can “confront and share new desires, hopes and visions.”
In-I explores love between men and women, and is to provide a “first” for Khan when he acts, sings and plays guitar onstage. It is to debut on the South Bank in September before touring through Luxembourg, Italy, Canada, Australia, Japan and the U.S. Of the production, Binoche continued, “What fascinates me is movement and the mystery of movement. Dance is movement. Painting is movement. Acting is movement,” reported the BBC.
