Former Yankees Outfielder Bobby Murcer Dies at Age 62

Yankees broadcaster and ex-outfielder Bobby Murcer has died at 62 after a battle with brain cancer.

WNBC has reported that the former Yankees player and broadcaster, Bobby Murcer, died after a 19 month battle with brain cancer, at his home in Oklahoma City, he was 62.

Murcer played for the Yankees from 1965-1983 where he then became a broadcaster with the team after retiring.

Murcer played 17 seasons in the majors with the Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs. He worked as a Yankees broadcaster for 23 seasons and was part of the Yankees family for over 40 years.

Murcer underwent surgery in December 2006 shortly after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor; he returned to work as a broadcaster last season and for a short period this year.
