Former “Village People” Singer Released After Surgery
15-Jul-2008

Victor Willis, the former singer/policeman of the Village People, has been released from a San Diego hospital following vocal cord surgery.

Victor Willis, the former lead singer of the Village People, has been released from a San Diego hospital following surgery to remove nodules on his vocal cords, the BBC reports.

Willis said, “I feel great and look forward to performing before the end of the year, but I can't say for sure.”

Currently, the 57-year-old singer is under doctor’s order not to sing for 90 days. According to Willis’s spokeswoman, his singing voice “sounds almost normal.”

In 2007, Willis developed hoarseness after several performances, forcing him to cancel his tours for that year. Willis’s current tour has been postponed, but he is expected to reschedule dates after the surgery in San Diego.

Originally, the Village People formed in 1977 with Willis performing as a policeman. Willis wrote and sang hit songs such as “YMCA” and “Macho Man” with the Village People, but left the group in 1980.
